What is a CFD?

A contract for difference (CFD) is an agreement between a client and a broker to exchange the difference in value of an underlying asset. CFDs are leveraged products, so gains and losses can be magnified.

Why leverage carries risk

Leverage allows a smaller deposit to control a larger position. It magnifies losses as well as gains, and you can lose all the money you deposit.

Understanding margin

Margin is the amount set aside to open and maintain a leveraged position. If the market moves against you, you may need to add funds or the position may be closed.
